We want the path to how life works best lit clearly before us. We want certainty that we see God, the world, and ourselves rightly. We want to know the way to go that leads life at its best. The problem in our search for the answer to that question is that is there are so many competing answers. There are quite literally hundreds of competing claims, all touting their certainty to light the way to life at its best. And because of these many claims, many of us—even those who profess to practice the way of Jesus—often feel conflicted about which path to take. We often feel torn and pulled in many directions. Everyone should be able to see clearly the path that leads to life at its best, and be able to get on that path. I understand the struggle. With so many competing versions of reality in our very pluralistic society, internal conflict is inevitable. External confusion is probable.

We want to be content people. Even those of us with enormous energy and seemingly unending drive for better and greater still desire contentment. For you to have contentment, or to be a content person, guess what—you must be completely satisfied in your life. The challenge to total satisfaction in life, however, is quite complex. It is complex because there is this gnawing hunger for more that never seems to quiet in us. No matter what we do, what we get, what we own or where we go, the hunger says…more.

 

How To See A Movement Of God

What does it take to see a movement of God among a people, a city, a nation?

We want to be clear on what it means to be a good father so that we can raise healthy and happy children. Do not get me wrong, there is a litany of things I desire out of fatherhood, but when I get down to the core, to the something of first importance, it is a desire to know for sure, “This is what it means to be a good father.” To be able to answer that question and raise healthy, happy kids to the best of my ability is what sometimes keeps me up at night, and I am sure it has kept many of you up as well. Of course, there are several challenges that we face in fathering children. We have an Enemy, the Devil, whose assignment is to kill, steal and destroy, and he has done much killing, stealing, and destruction in modern and postmodern families. Fatherlessness, the emotional vacancy of fathers who might be physically present, and an all-out assault on the family unit has left many scars. On top of that, for many of us, no one taught us how to be good fathers. How does that leave us feeling? Unfit. Unequipped. Lost. None of us should have to feel this way. Every father should be clear on how to be a good father and able—to the best of their ability—to raise healthy and happy children.

You can not fully practice the way of Jesus if you are not MAKING disciples. Leading people to Jesus is at the core of who we are as Christians.

We have a problem. The world we grew up in is very different than the one we currently live in. For most of us over the age of 28 who grew up in the States, with a few exceptions, Christianity held a privileged position within our culture. It was viewed as anywhere from benign to preferable, depending on where you were. 

That world mostly doesn’t exist anymore. We now live in something that far more closely resembles the historical context that most Christians grew up in. We are Christians living in a pluralistic and mostly antagonistic culture. Our context would prefer that you not be a Christian, or at least if you are, that you never bring it up.
